Maternity Session FAQ & What to Expect

Congratulations on your Pregnancy!

Here are a few questions that are often asked when deciding on choosing the best photographer for you.

WHATS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE?

I like to keep things clean & simple.  Your bump, you and your partner are the main focus.  This is such a special time in your lives and I don’t like to have any element distracting from this.

We can shoot in my home studio or we can head out to a preferred location like your home, the beach, paddock or botanical gardens (whilst keeping the backdrop minimal).  If shooting outdoors and the weather isn’t favourable, we can look at rescheduling.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK?

The earlier you book your session, the better.  Usually the best time to book a maternity session is at your 20 week mark.  I have limited spots available on the weekend.  The best time for maternity photos is between 28 and 32 weeks.  Your tummy is nice and round, and hopefully you’re not too uncomfortable at this stage.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

You are welcome to wear your own gown or you can choose from our modest collection in studio.  We are continually adding to our collection, so please discuss with us if you have a particular colour / gown style in mind.
If brining your own clothing, take the time to check that it fits properly and looks the way you want it to look.  Stretchy fabrics/maxi dresses are a great option.  Keep your colours simple.  Wearing bold / patterns can be distracting and we want to keep the main focus on your beautiful bump.

HOW LONG WILL  THE MATERNITY SESSION LAST?

Sessions typically go for 45 minutes to 1 hour.  In that time we aim for a variety of poses, setups and any outfit changes.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR A SESSION?

I suggest pampering yourself before your maternity session.  Consider having your nails done, hair styled and possibly hiring a make up artist.  Make sure you get plenty of rest the night before (if your little bump will let you!).  Stay hydrated and don’t skip breakfast.  Staying hydrated will keep your skin looking fresh and your energy up.

DON’T STRESS!

The idea of a FAQ is to prepare and inform you, not stress you out.  Relax, your photographer will take care of you.  Before any session, we will talk on the phone or catch up over a coffee so we can both make sure we are on the same page, ensuring a great relaxed session for you.
